Choosing an Alternative Lifestyle
We are super excited and a little nervous to announce that our Youtube channel is finally live!
Every time we share our story with people we meet, we are met with the same phrase: "You should start a YouTube channel!" Well, I've tried in the past and failed to really launch. As we sold everything in South Whitley, Indiana to move to Tennessee two years ago, building the farmstead at Canaan Valley Farm took priority - running our socials to build a following and sell our delicious pasture raised poultry, turkey, pork and forest-range eggs in a new city and state took all my bandwidth.
The past year we have felt increasingly lonely, even trapped. With no one around whom we could trust to look after our animals so we could visit family in Indiana or even just explore the greater Tennessee, we began to experience a type of cabin fever. Although we've met some wonderful people, we never did find community. Farm life, also meant that we were a ways away from everyone and everything.
After about a year of praying and asking God for wisdom and a sign to be released from what we can only describe as a "calling" to the Big East Fork Valley, TN, we finally received our sign. It came in the form of God selling our (almost) 800 pairs of YoDad shoes. If you've read our previous Substack posts, you know the story behind that. As soon as we had the "GO!" it was like we were walking in God's favour and perfect timing. We sold all our animals within the month of December, and we were blessed to go on our first two week vacation in two years.
From January till now, we have sold everything else and now we are packing the last of our belongings in a 7 ft by 12 ft trailer and our truck. We leave Tennessee on Tuesday to embark on the adventure of our lifetime!
We are choosing this alternative lifestyle to learn and explore and grow. To live a life of adventure and bring hope wherever we can. To learn from others and to teach our skills to those who are interested.
